Washi Walk: Art & Garden Tour
Sunday, July 13
Arboretum tour begins at 1 p.m.; Museum tour begins at 2 p.m.

Discover the Palmer’s new special exhibition Washi Transformed: New Expressions in Japanese Paper and explore paper-related plants in the gardens. Begin with a garden walk hosted by Arboretum educator Rebecca Horwitt to learn about plants used in the papermaking process, along with their growth habits, pest challenges, and harvesting methods. Then venture indoors with a museum guide for a deep dive into the expressive and inventive paper sculptures on view in Washi Transformed as well as related works in the permanent collection.

Art After Hours: Creative Transformations
Thursday, July 24
Free, drop-in, 5 to 8 p.m.
Take a break during the summer session and LEAP over to the museum to exercise your creativity! Explore the special exhibition Washi Transformed: New Expressions in Japanese Paper for inspiration before making your own folded paper sculpture. Transform your in-gallery experience of Washi Transformed and permanent collection installations with an Artify tour that pairs art and music. Light refreshments will be provided.

Paper Workshop: It's a Wrap!
Thursday, July 31
5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Join instructor Brandi Breslin to transform ordinary paper into unique, handcrafted gift wrap using a variety of techniques, including painting, printing, and stenciling. Create personalized designs and participate in a group painting process to take home a variety of paper designs. All supplies will be provided and shared among workshop participants. Museum as Classroom: Educator & Faculty Open House
Thursday, August 7
3 to 6 p.m.
Area K-12 Educators and university faculty are invited to drop-in to the Palmer Museum of Art and explore curricular connections with the many public collections at Penn State. Preview exhibitions, programs, and resources designed to engage students of all ages, and meet collection educators to discuss guided program opportunities, support for self-guided exploration, and tips for planning visits or other museum experiences. Participating Penn State organizations: All-Sports Museum, the Arboretum, Center for the Performing Arts, Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum, Eberly Family Special Collections Library, Frost Entomological Museum, HUB-Robeson Galleries, Matson Museum of Anthropology, Penn State Planetarium, The Radiation Science & Engineering Center, and WPSU.

Mimi Barash Coppersmith Studio Classroom
Get creative, connect with others, move your hands, and take time to relax and rejuvenate through art-making processes. Hosted by museum educators, interns, or guest artists, these sessions will focus on the practice of creativity, exploring artistic mediums, and making personal connections rather than on final products.

2025 Summer Workshops
Summer workshops at the Palmer Museum offer opportunities to learn deeply about art through hands-on creative processes and in-depth guided exploration.
This summer, a variety of single-session workshops are inspired by the special exhibition Washi Transformed and offer exploration of the material of paper. All workshops require advance registration and a fee of $35 ($30 for Penn State students and museum members and volunteers).
